home is where the heart is…

Although I live in and love the ‘burbs of Los Angeles, Oklahoma will always have my heart. I’m an Oklahoma girl through and through, a fact I sometimes forget until I go home for a visit. When that happens, all the things I love about the OK state crash over me in a tidal wave of nostalgia.

September of this year was no different. Well, actually it was much more profound than it normally is. I don’t know why, but everywhere I went, I was flooded with memories of my past. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Memories I hadn’t thought of since the original events bombarded me at every turn. It was the strangest experience and a bit disconcerting and overwhelming. I was a knot of emotions wound tight.

But then something shifted and the knot began to gently unravel, a fact for which I was eternally grateful because I seriously thought I was going to lose my mind for a day or two there. With that, I was able to settle into the weird replay and enjoy the ride of my life.

Two of my very favorite things about Oklahoma are Oklahoma football (we’re fanatics!!) and the sunsets. My heart pounds with excitement at both. I hadn’t been to an Oklahoma ball game in nearly 20 years so was thrilled to get invited to one during my visit. It was the perfect day for it, too. The temperature was in the 60’s, the sky was that brilliant blue that only reveals herself in autumn, and there was that leaves-are-turning smell in the air. Fall. OH how I love it! I was also graced with one of the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve seen in a long time.

Home…Oklahoma. Football. Sunsets. Autumn.
